All four of the basic ingredients mentioned here have the same property &#8211; they are rich in proteins and fats, but have a low content of carbs which is exactly what we wan&#8217;t when being on a ketogenic diet. Eggs, bacon, sausages, fried fish, chicken, tuna, fresh cheese (quark), mayonnaise &#8211; these are just some of the many things you can eat on this type of diet. That may sound like an great diet to be on, but it isn&#8217;t really simple to be on this type of diet for a longer time, so it is good (and necessary, because of the vitamins, fibers, and minerals you will get from vegetables) to also include some vegetables, but only those with relatively low content of carbs, like: lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers and similar vegetables. Other types of vegetables, like potatoes, beans and peas should be avoided because of their high content of carbohydrates.</p>
<p>You may also wish to occasionally eat something sweet for a change. This may be a bit tricky, because you will have to use artifitial sweeteners, but there are many products made for people with diabetes, that contain no sugar, and can thereby be used on a ketogenic type of diet.</p>

They came along on the heels of the hippy movement of the 60&#8242;s and often served as a place for communes to sell their homegrown wares. The health food stores smelled of herbs, incense and a few other things that generally defied description. There were strange and exotic foods from all over the globe, all of them claiming to be organic or free range. There were things like granola, soymilk, goat&#8217;s milk, tofu and wheat grass juice. You could find books on such subjects as natural healing, crystal therapy and composting.</p>
<p>Wild Oats is a franchise in many cities and when you go into the store, you can tell right away that the basic Mom and Pop operation had changed. This particular chain began eighteen years ago in Boulder, Colorado and has expanded over the years to include more than 110 stores in 24 states and British Columbia. It is clear to see how this company became the standard for the organic market industry.</p>
<p>At first glance, their store looks like any other large grocery store, and you can probably find many of the same items that you would in a standard grocery store &#8211; but with one twist. Everything is organic. Usually when you hear the word organic, you might think two things; bland and expensive. However, with all the options and improvements in the way of organic foods are produced, there are many items that are very tasty, and the prices have become comparable to those of a conventional grocery store.</p>
<p>The overall concept of the health food store hasn&#8217;t changed. They still offer a wide range of organic foods and herbal remedies. They are filled with all kinds of products to heal the body, mind and spirit. You can find aromatherapy candles, essential oils, books, tapes, and DVD&#8217;s on meditation and yoga. You can take cooking classes and learn how to make your own herbal remedies. There are still aisles dedicated to environmentally safe products for household cleaning and recycling.</p>
<p>Some additions are a pleasant surprise, though. There can be four different &#8220;deli&#8221; counters. There is usually a butcher counter with free-range chicken and beef and a plethora of fresh seafood. Another counter may display an array of amazing baked goods (bagels, cakes and pastries), and in many stores there is yet another section that caters full meals for a quick healthy lunch or a dinner party. The modern health food store also had a section for wine and beer, an astounding array of cheeses, and an extensive frozen foods section.</p>
<p>It is good to see how far the basic health food store has come. Sure you can still find the small ones if you look for them, but like so many other things these days, big corporations have taken over and created franchises that offer more for less. Buying in bulk allows the stores to get better discounts and pass the savings on to the consumer.</p>

<div>No matter where you go or what you’re doing these days, you are sure to be bombarded on all sides by slogans, advertising campaigns and health conscious people about your own health and how to look after it properly. This extends to every aspect of your life, including what you eat and where you can get it. This is where the organic health food store comes into your otherwise peaceful existence.</p>
<p>You are forced to leave your normal easy lifestyle to adopt one which most definitely better suited for you, but which is also too much hassle in this and age of convenience foods.</p>
<p>The world might be changing its outlook on these things and finding them lacking in anything resembling nutrition, but they are the staple of you life and you have gotten used to them to such an extent that weaning you off these foods is somewhat along the lines of weaning someone off smoking twenty packs of cigarettes a day.</p>
<p>You have to be dragged down kicking and screaming to the nearest organic health food store by those people who profess to love and care for you, when in reality if they cared even one iota for you, they would leave you alone in your singular little rut of eating overcooked TV dinners, greasy fat-filled hamburgers and fries, and sugar laden drinks and desserts. That’s of course assuming they care about you.</p>
<p>But since your family and friends are heartless monsters who enjoy seeing you suffer being in the best of health, you unfortunately have no choice but to go along with their whims and fancies of the moment. And in this case, the moment seems to be stretching out into an eternity of having to eat healthy organically grown and produced foods and this in turn necessitates your having to go on a frequent basis down to your local (or nearest) organic health food store.</p>
<p>Of course if you really tried hard you might be able to get back to your unhealthy lifestyle of one pot of coffee in the morning and another two or three pots as the day progresses. Unfortunately though fate does not seem to be on your side and you find that even when you try to break free of the imposed health food diet, you can’t.</p>
<p>Why? Because now you’re used to it and all the grease in those greasy hamburgers is enough to turn you green – literally. This is unfortunately your lot in life now and you find yourself frequenting the organic health food store more and more often as your taste buds decide to rejoin the living, and your palate finds enjoyment once again in your meals.</p>
